"Going Regional on Blighted and Abandoned Properties"

The presence of thousands of blighted and abandoned properties in Southwestern Pennsylvania threatens to to undermine sustainable communities and compromise the region's economy.

That was the topic of the 6th Annual Regional Equitable Development Summit in Pittsburgh during which findings and recommendations from a recent strategic report were presented. The report states "Blight is an 'economic crime' costing taxpayers and municipalities millions of dollars annually in lost property tax revenues, sewer and water fees, and increased municipal expenditures." During this program we will hear the keynote address from John Kromer, a Senior Consultant at the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania and author of "Fixing Broken Cities: the Implementation of Urban Development Strategies". "Autism Through the Lifespan"

DUQ Behavioral Health Reporter Erika Beras presents a nine-part series that examines the challenges and triumphs of living with an autism spectrum disorder. Each segment addresses autism from a different stage in the life cycle, covering issues such as first diagnosis, early childhood, special education, the justice system, romantic relationships, employment, middle age, and current research. "Green Recovery"

Business leaders and sustainability experts from across the country gathered in Pittsburgh recently for a symposium, titled "Sustainability: The Bridge to the Future," on how green business practices can help in the economic recovery. The conference focused on why environmental, financial and social responsibility, the new triple bottom line, are essential for economic recovery, innovation and growth.

This program features and address from the keynote speaker, green business consultant Andrew Winston. He is the co-author of the best selling book, Green to Gold. His newest book is called Green Recovery. His firm, Winston Eco-Strategies, works with Fortune 500 companies to use environmental thinking to innovate and profit. Listen

Five Years After 9-11

In recognition of the 5th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, DUQ news returned to Shanksville and the scene of the Flight 93 crash to assess what, if anything had changed. This series also included a one-hour special featuring a panel discussion about the events of 9-11.
