Pittsburghs First Public Radio Station:
A History of WDUQ 90.5 FM
WDUQ 90.5 FM's history on the Pittsburgh airwaves is a story of growth and change in communications that in many ways reflects the evolution of radio on the FM band and the development and growth of non-commercial, public radio across the United States. In 1941, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reserved a portion of the new FM band exclusively for non-commercial use. With this development, some colleges and universities around the country made plans to establish radio stations on campus.
